Festival Fashion 2012
How do the celebrities Dress for Music Festivals?
Their famous faces are not the only reason they stand out from the rest of the festival hoard. Coachella seems to be the American equivalent of Australia’s Big Day Out. Since the festival is held in the middle of the California desert, the heat is just as bad – if not worse – than that of the Gold Coast. The following celebrities prove that it’s possible to dress appropriately for the festival weather without going half-naked and getting sunburned to within an inch of your life.
Fashion for the Boys
Actor Scott Speedman [left] manages to look effortlessly cool without risking sun cancer. Take a leaf out of his book and team a loose flanno-style shirt with a pair of lightweight shorts. Try our St Goliath Watery shirt (perfect colours for summer) or Deacon Discontent hooded shirt. Remove the hoody during the day then button it back on when the temperature cools down at night. Team with the Mooks Weber Walkshorts.
If you’re looking to channel the 60s like musician Angus Stone [below], pair our Obey Tanner Pants with a brightly coloured top. Try our Mooks Logan tee or Nana Judy Cuff and Pocket Plain tee; the bright colour downplays the pants, resulting in a look that is trendy rather than 'hippie’. The pants, by the way, are extremely thin and loose, therefore really cool to wear. Roll the hem up to the knees to combat the heat.
OTHER SUGGESTIONS...
Did you know it’s actually cooler to wear more clothing in the heat than it is to wear less? Why else do you think people out in the desert wear robes instead of Speedos? So opt for a shirt instead of a singlet; particularly if you burn easily. Dark colours are said to attract the sun’s rays so go for lighter colours. Try our Nana Judy Watercolour Haunted tee or Bambam Fire Hearts tee. If your skin doesn’t burn easy, go with our Bambam Demure singlet or Wrangler Paisley Face singlet. Steer clear of thick, rigid denim shorts and go for thin stretch denim – perhaps our Nana Judy Bleach Angler Shorts or Wrangler stretch True Blue shorts. Better yet, choose cotton and try our St Goliath Dowl Elastic Waist shorts or St Goliath Align shorts. For something comfy yet preppy, wear the Nana Judy Classic Tailored Shorts. Don’t forget to finish off with a cap (Mossimo Castr Cap, for example) to keep the sun off your face. Since Big Day Out is a music festival, try to inject a little music into your outfit. Team the Nana Judy Rockstar Guitar shirt with the Lost Pigeon festival cuff and you’re good to go.
FOR THE GIRLS
We ladies know the best part about a festival – apart from the music – is the fashion. But lately we’re seeing the same thing in every crowd: denim cut-offs and a singlet worn over a bikini top. How about mixing it up a little this year with a cute romper? If you’re a sucker for black like singer-actress Hilary Duff, wear our August Street Tiger Bone playsuit or Cameo Far Away romper. If you prefer colour like her sister Haylie Duff, go for the Sass Chloe Playsuit or the Living Doll Geo Jumpsuit. If you’d rather wear separates, channel actress Isabel Lucas [above] and try our Pink Stitch Romantic Floral Wide Leg pants. The splits up the side and the lightweight fabric make these pants surprisingly cool to wear. There’s also the maxi skirt option – Jorge Horizon Maxi skirt – teamed with a cute tie-up blouse – Lolitta Tina Shirt. Model Alessandra Ambrosio [below] has mastered the art of festival fashion in her summery white top and mini shorts. For our take, try the Fate Woodstock Lace Poncho (bikini top underneath) and Wrangler low cheeky beach short. A pair of brown cowgirl boots on the bottom will keep your feet safe from trampling festival-goers and mud.
OTHER FESTIVAL FASHION SUGGESTIONS...
If you’re looking to inject the colour blocking trend into your festival outfit, try the Pink Stitch Message in a Bottle dress with a pair of bright orange sandals and a bright waist belt. White is also really hot for summer (in the style sense of the word, not the temperature sense!). Wear our Pink Stitch Kytheria sun dress or Fresh Soul Strapless Frill dress. Downplay the girlishness of these dresses with a pair of cut-off studded motorcycle boots. And don’t forget the accessories! The Kiik Dreamcatcher necklace and Attica Dahlia Piñata necklaces were made to be worn to festivals. If you want that Woodstock 60s look, try the Attica Skull Island Wrap worn around your head like a daisy chain. Need to keep the sun off that pretty face of yours? Top off the outfit with the Living Doll Wool Hat or Straw Hat.
Not going to Big Day Out? Here’s a few reasons why you should!: Kanye West, Sound Garden, Kasabian, My Chemical Romance, The Living End, Highflying Birds, Nero, Hilltop Hoods, Parkway Drive, Girl Talk, Bluejuice, Jezabels, Art vs. Science, Kimbra, Regurgitator, Tonite Only, The Vaccines, Cage the Elephant, Foster the People, Boy & Bear, The Getaway Plan, Faker, Amity Affliction, Tony Hawk, Pirates Alive, Red Spencer, + more.
Enjoy!
